The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is hailed by the sages as the heart of the Vedas. Along with the Gayatri mantra it holds the highest place among the many mantras used for contemplation and meditation. It is the mantra for healing and peace.

Partly it is because of desire. When we desire a thing or a person we tend to project our own image of what is upon the thing of our desire. Also, we equate virtue with harmony and a person with harmonious features is seen as good. Yet, beauty of face does not signify virtue.
